The use of arches in contemporary interior design often has the function of creating a separation between two rooms, while maintaining communication between them.
I had already talked about it in the post on the arc in a modern key.
Unlike the door, the arch gives a glimpse of the environment that lies beyond the observation point, helping to establish continuity.
The use of bows in interior design: functions and effects
The arches are also used to give movement and volume to furnishings and accessories, which are sometimes made to measure to have such a geometric softness.
The images of the interior spaces represent living spaces where arches and curved lines have a very precise role. The first ones create a continuity with the adjoining rooms; the latter are present both in the furnishings, such as furniture and shelves, and furnishings, such as wall lamps, carpets and decorative cushions.
In particular, in my last project, I used curved line as the protagonist of a new living room.
The new living room is obtained from an apartment adjacent to the existing one and, having the building 4 meters high ceilings with floor granite, the use of the arch is indicated as a passage instead of the door.
An arch revisited in a modern key, but well suited to classic and high-ceilinged environments.
I then wanted to take up the theme of the arch even in the living room furniture, to be created to measure to cover a boiler that cannot be moved.
The white and gray furniture, in which the arches build the main motif takes its cue from the Cabinet de Curiosité piece of furniture by the Bonaldo brand, with the difference that in my project I wanted to include closed doors in order to create storage space.
The piece of furniture has a linear and precise structure; the rigor of the lines that characterize it is subverted by the arches, placed on the front side of the shelf. These largely replace doors and hatches, allowing the contents of the furniture to be glimpsed, in a fun game of chiaroscuro and see-through effects.
Like the bookcase designed by Bonaldo, even the white and gray shelf looks like a sort of wonder box, in which secrets are stored and nothing is as it seems.
Positioned on the wall near the armchair, the idea is to create a niche reserved for free thinking, reading and contemplation of one’s fantasy world, also thanks to the virtual windows constituted by the compartments of the furniture, delimited precisely by the arches.
Curved lines: creating soft harmony
The curved lines are also a modern reinterpretation of classical architecture; together with the arches they contribute to establishing harmony and continuity between one environment and another, as well as between the environment and man.
The arches coherently draw furniture and distribution spaces, creating the possibility of communicating fluidly and discreetly with other rooms in the home.
Soft lines and geometric patterns literally surround those who stay in the room.
Even the colors used strongly contribute to determining the cozy and relaxed atmosphere. The prevalence of light shades, including sand, white and gray, enlivened by the slightly damped turquoise, makes the whole whole tranquil, enveloping and relaxing, but by no means monotonous, thanks to the shades of blue present in the right size.
