The cat litter box that you see in these images I designed and made by a friend carpenter.
Why did I choose the tailor made option?
I’ll explain it below!
Price
After research on research, I could not find any litter box I liked. Or those I liked had crazy prices! but literally crazy.
€ 250,00 or more for a litter box seems excessive. I did not want the classic plastic box: I wanted to put it on sight, in the living area that we have upstairs. So I wanted a cabinet that could be well adapted to furniture.
Functionality
Even the most beautiful litter boxes lacked in functionality. In particular I needed a place where I could also hide the dustpan to clean the sand. Otherwise hide the litter, but where I put the tools to clean the sand?
The shelf you see in the picture then has the function of:
- create a separate area from the litter where to store the headstock or other small accessories
- a support for the cat not to jump directly inside the litter
- it is removable to make it easier to clean the litter when the whole sand has to be changed
Dimensions
It had to adapt to the size of the existing litter that is not very small, since Gastone (the cat) is used to a litter of this size. And many had a very small entrance! I was not sure that Gastone would have willingly entered it with a too small entrance.
From the photos you see that I was also quite abundant with the size of the entrance!
These are the reasons why I decided that in the end I did first to draw one of my own! and thanks to our carpenter friend who made it, at the right price.
