In Paris, the architect François Pélegrin and his wife Evelyne transformed the former residence of the French journalist Joséphine Baker into a bioclimatic duplex with light and luminous atmospheres.
A duplex apartment in the central 20th arrondissement of Paris, characterized by the play of color contrasts between black and white, for a visual effect of incredible elegance. Keyword: black & white. What are we waiting for? Let’s open the door of this apartment and let’s discover every detail together!
Stay with a Parisian allure
At the entrance level, we are faced with a large hall with a staircase connecting the floors, which immediately captures the attention for the beauty of its spiral shape, painted in a refined shade of black. The apartment is a bright white casket that encloses an orderly succession of black furniture, for a 100% “parisienne” final result. Here the space hosts a circular living room that welcomes you in a warm embrace, making you feel at home.
The dining room area is distinguished by the black table, covered with a white tablecloth, designed by our architect François Pélegrin and custom-made by a well-known local craftsman. The kitchen and all-round furnishings, always in shades of black and white, complete this precise and timely style, which enjoys playing with opposites, giving an extremely simple, yet elegant and refined effect. Finally, the blond wood furniture, the light oak wood floors and the vertical sloping and painted white surfaces give the room a warm and natural style, with both classic and extremely contemporary elements.
The sleeping area on the roof of Paris
We climb the spiral staircase and change scene towards the attic, the whole floor dedicated to the sleeping area. We are therefore faced with the master suite, always marked by the contrast between white and black. The contrast also between the strength of the structure and the purity of the lines, already widely used on the ground floor. An essential furnishing that is constituted of a dressing room enriched with rigorously white curtains with motifs and writings reminiscent of the French capital. Between the bedroom and the dressing room there is a small but functional shower, made with mosaic tiles in the shades of white and black.
From the top of the stairs, the view of the circular living room is truly something sublime. But it’s not over here, other spectacular views await us on the terrace.
Emotions: Paris from above
Leaving the sleeping area we move to the most striking part of this duplex. The brick wall and the slate roof stand in front of this furnished terrace. An ideal space to invite friends to an aperitif and to admire the view of Paris. A personal style that reveals constant taste choices: balance, essentiality, love for natural materials and neutral colors. The benches, covered with white and black cushions, are arranged around a central table. It is the ideal space for conversations with friends, for evenings in the company and for relaxation after a day of incessant work.
And from here you can relentlessly enjoy the splendid views of some of the most incredible monuments in Paris, from the Louvre to the Musée d’Orsay to the Jardins des Tuileries.
Beauty, balance, sober style, classic, but at the same time modern and original, where nothing is left to chance and where nothing is highlighted. The architecture of this duplex in Paris is certainly enough to itself.
