For the “Design restaurants” section, I could not fail to mention The Manzoni: a new Milanese restaurant opened by British designer Tom Dixon, whose restaurant also serves as a furniture showroom and the European headquarters of the designer himself.
The interiors
The interior of the restaurant is composed of a granite bar that dominates the entrance with large stools arranged along a marble top hanging from the wall. The restaurant, open at the beginning of May, has 100 seats and the diners will be free to also buy the pieces of furniture, as well as food.

The idea is that everything is for sale: candle holders, glasses, furniture and much more on display inside the windows. The interior design is markedly characterized by metallic and marble accents, designed with the aim of giving a greater sense of importance but at the same time also of hospitality towards the customers.
The entrance
The entrance of the restaurant is in Via Manzoni, near the famous Teatro La Scala in Milan, it is dominated by numerous tables with comfortable and padded chairs, hanging lamps and translucent opal globe lights. A series of six suspended stainless steel showcases placed on one side of the reception area show the pieces of Dixon for tea and coffee pot, where the glass carafes stand out.
The dining area
The main dining area is a long, narrow L-shaped room, with a curtain made from Kinnasand’s Unix collection hanging on the wall. Throughout the room, the walls are a moody gray; while a row of opaline lights hangs over the dining tables. As for the colors, The Manzoni is very monochromatic with the aim of giving a greater emphasis on materiality; therefore the walls, tables and other stainless steel elements all refer to this idea.

The bar area has walls and floors tiled in mint green and brown arranged in a geometric design, surrounded by stainless steel cabinets. Everything is always and however linked to the concept of good food and an aesthetic that puts guests at ease.
The Jungle Room
Beyond the main dining room is the Jungle Room, a multi-purpose showroom dedicated to meetings. This room is lit by Dixon’s Spring lamps, which have the shape of flattened globes dismayed by twisted strips of polished brass. The walls, on the other hand, are decorated with plants from the ground and hung on the walls that contrast with the cement.
The Jungle room can also be set up for private dinners and parties.

The outdoor courtyard
The outdoor courtyard leads off the Jungle Room and is dominated by a large round green marble table, surrounded by silver chairs resting on thick bases. The plants are arranged vertically and have been prepared so that they can grow freely along the walls
The bathrooms
Finally, the bathrooms, also in a modern style, are unisex and dominated by two large mirrors, facing each other, surrounded by Spot Surface Obround lights.

According to Tom Dixon, the combination of a showroom and a restaurant was designed to create a more engaging environment for shoppers!
